Il Tondo Doni è un’opera di Michelangelo, dipinta nel 1507 e adesso conservata a Firenze, Galleria degli Uffizi.
Dipinto per Agnolo Doni e per sua moglie Maddalena Strozzi, il Tondo Doni segna una svolta nell’arte del Cinquecento: inaugura un nuovo modo di vedere le figure in primo piano, disponendole lungo una specie di spirale e delineando i contorni dei personaggi in modo netto e tagliente.
Il quadro nella sua osservazione, incomincia dallo sfondo, dove si intravede un albero. Possiamo immaginare che in ambito religioso, questo rappresenti l’albero del bene e del male, di Adamo ed Eva. Anche se non ne siamo assolutamente sicuri, perché questo non è stato affermato ancora da nessun libro.
Più avanti possiamo notare dei nudi appoggiati sul muretto, che hanno pose prese da un bassorilievo antico. Poiché l’antichità simboleggia il paganesimo, purificato tramite il battesimo, i nudi stanno oltre la balaustra.
San Giovannino, il futuro battista, si trova in mezzo, e diventa l’intermediario tra il mondo pagano e quello cristiano.
In primo piano, troviamo San Giuseppe, Maria e Gesù bambino, collocati ognuno dietro l’altro. San Giuseppe viene posto dietro verso il passato e Maria viene posta in avanti verso il futuro. E si vede Gesù bambino che passa dalle mani di San Giuseppe a quelle di Maria, quasi come se spuntasse fuori dal quadro.
Nella cornice si intravede ad altorilievo Cristo, e due profeti e due angeli che annunciarono la sua venuta.
Questo quadro, mi sembrava veramente molto noioso, fino a quando non ho capito il suo vero significato. Mi pare STRAORDINARIO, che in un solo quadro ,si riesca a rappresentare la storia della Bibbia, la storia dell’uomo. Ancora una volta l’Arte mi ha sorpresa, perché l’Arte non è solo osservazione ma anche lettura, riflessione e immaginare che un solo quadro rappresenti tutto questo è MERAVIGLIOSO.

L’opera “Tondo Doni” é stata realizzata da Michelangelo per Agnolo Doni e per sua moglie Maddalena Strozzi, probabilmente in onore della loro figlia Maria.
Essa rappresenta Gesù , in braccio a Giuseppe che lo passa a Maria, inginocchiata sull’erba con il busto ruotato verso dietro. Questa posizione riprende molto quella di una giovane, rappresentata nel dipinto di Raffaello “Trasporto di Cristo” mentre sorregge la Vergine che sviene.
Le ginocchia e il gomito di Maria sono così realistici che sembrano uscire dal quadro. Si nota anche che sulla veste di Maria, un libro, probabilmente la Genesi.
L’ambiente in cui la scene è ambientata è completamente deserto di vegetazione, però in fondo a destra si nota un alberello: l’albero del Bene e del Male a cui si lega la storia di Adamo ed Eva. Michelangelo, infatti fa partire tutto da quel simbolo per noi apparentemente insignificante, perchè se non ci fosse stata la scelta di Adamo ed Eva, di fidarsi del serpente ( il diavolo), senza la loro punizione , ora noi non esisteremmo sulla Terra.
Andando più in avanti notiamo dei ragazzi nudi, appoggiati sul muretto con pose che Michelangelo, ha ripreso da alcune scultutre ellenistiche.
Più in avanti ancora, troviamo un bambino: è San Giovannino, il futuro battista.
Lui è l’intermediario tra il mondo pagano e quello cristiano, infatti il muretto grigio che si trova prima si lui è l’anno zero.
I colori che Michelangelo usa in questo dipintosono freddi, metallici sui toni dell’azzurro, del giallo e del rosa.
La ricca cornice, probabilmente è stata realizzata da Michelangelo, intagliata e dorata nella bottega di Francesco e Marco del Tasso, i più abili artigiani fiorentini del legno a quel tempo. Sulla cornice vi si trovano 5 teste ad altorilievo: quella in alto di Cristo e le altre 4 quelle probabilmente o dei 4 Evangelisti oppure di 2 profeti e di 2 angeli.
